Hi there! I am starting a clothing brand and I just had some questions about shipping rates and the pricing.
So I am just on the Shopify Shipping Calculator and I wanted to double check and make sure that these discounted prices are accurate? If I were to ship my hoodies from Canada to the U.S, it says around $8-$9 for me to print the label. I just need some help and assurance because I do not want to mess up the shipping part of my brand when I drop and I want to make sure it is all sorted out and good.
Regarding your specific question, when you have the sender’s address, recipient’s address, and package weight, and have chosen a carrier, you can use the carrier’s website calculator to compare shipping rates. If you’re using Shopify Shipping, you might have access to discounted rates. However, comparing these rates can still be beneficial. If you notice any discrepancies in the rates, you should either verify with Shopify or negotiate directly with the carrier.
Ultimately, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of shipping processes might require you to manage a few shipments from start to finish.
Hey there. Yep, as Mirdas has said, there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution here when it comes to rates. Fair disclaimer: I do work for Starshipit (a shipping automation solution company). Here’s what I’d consider if you’re just starting out:
Shipping rate management: If you go through Shopify, it can make things easier, but you’re forgoing any control over the rates you pay. If you sign up directly with a carrier, then you’ll able to negotiate volume discounts as you go. And yes, many carriers allow you pay by credit card if you’re just getting started.
Multiple carriers: It’s also prudent to use multiple carriers, even early on. When you’ve got a couple of carriers to choose from, you have a buffer against shipping delays and can optimise for price.
Then, I’d look at dedicated shipping solutions to alleviate a lot of the manual admin of shipping (and to manage your carriers in one place).
Good luck in any case, I hope this is useful to keep in mind
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question.
We do have a guide that can help you learn more about the Shopify Shipping discounts. While we wouldn’t be able to determine the accuracy of the rates in relation to where you’re located, you can compare these rates at your local post office. Alternatively, you can also compare the shipping rates using third-party apps, like Shippo, as they also offer discounted rates.
