How can a physical therapist manage a nonprofit online store?

I’m a Physical Therapist. I lost my wife to Breast Cancer. I started a nonprofit in her memory. In order to raise funds I created a store on Shopify. I really want to learn how to operate it fully myself. I’m so tired of paying others for nothing. I’m not too computer literate but dedicated. Can this platform assist?

@Kentobegin Hope you are doing well.

Could you please share what guide you are in need of?

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Turning your journey into a nonprofit is a beautiful tribute to your wife’s memory.

To answer your question: Yes, you can absolutely do this. Shopify was designed for people exactly in your position. While it feels like a steep mountain now, you can learn it one step at a time without paying outside experts for basic tasks.

Read all the below caveats before contacting support.

If you have ACTUAL goods to sell then ecommerce software can make sense, otherwise it’s overkill and the fees .
For actual non-profits reach out to shopify support DIRECTLY to request a non-profit pricing plan if not already on one.

https://help.shopify.com/en> → Chat with a human in the lower corner

Don’t blindly use shopify for fund raising if not selling goods.

in order to raise funds

Stop, use an actual platform meant for fund raising if not selling merchandise.
Do NOT try to use shopify as a hammer just because it’s a thing you’ve heard of it.

If the non-profit sells merchandise

Shopify is not an outsourcing service for building a fund-raising charity, it is ecommerce software.
If there’s merchandise to sell then continue, otherwise stop reading and do better research and likely stop any subscription/plans until you know better.

I’m so tired of paying others for nothing.

Have clear business requirements and get contracts, don’t be vague about problems.
Otherwise improve communication learn to ask good questions reeeeeaaaaaal fast or your gonna have a bad time in ecommerce , e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/help/how-to-ask https://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
And read the friendly manual thoroughly for which ever software you end up using.

I’m not too computer literate but dedicated. Can this platform assist?

It is NOT the responsibility of shopify , or partners, or contributors, or the community to run your business for you.
Shopify is a tool for business not magic.

You can get massive utility from the forums as assistance but you need to ask clear SINGULAR scope questions.
Do not try to set an expectation that others will guide you from nothing to success, break the problem to waaaaaay smaller pieces.

The short answer is yes. Shopify is designed specifically for people who are not “computer types” but are dedicated to their vision. Because you have already established the store, you have already cleared the hardest technical hurdle.
