Hi Dear All
Can anyone help me? My LLC is open in the USA, and I have an EIN, but Shopify’s payment method requires an SSN. I don’t understand how an LLC owner can provide an SSN, as it is typically only held by U.S. citizens. Is this some kind of complication? Other service providers also have strange requirements, and everyone seems to have their own issues. Can anyone guide me on which payment gateway would be easy to use? I have all the LLC documents, and the EIN is available. What should I do ? Thank you in advance,
Regards
Topic summary
Main issue: An LLC owner with a U.S.-registered company and an EIN is unable to complete Shopify Payments onboarding because the system requests an SSN, which they don’t have as a non-U.S. citizen.
Context: SSN (Social Security Number) is typically issued to U.S. citizens or eligible residents; EIN (Employer Identification Number) is assigned to businesses for tax purposes. The poster has all LLC documents and an EIN.
Recent updates: After contacting Shopify support, they received generic guidance to “contact the Team,” which didn’t resolve the SSN requirement. They note other payment providers also have varying or “strange” onboarding requirements.
Request: Seeking recommendations for an easier payment gateway that can work with LLC documentation and EIN without requiring an SSN.
Status: No concrete solutions or decisions have emerged in the thread. The issue remains unresolved, with key questions about acceptable alternatives to SSN for non-U.S. LLC owners still open.
Thank you for your reply. The Shopify support team doesn’t seem to understand; they just suggest contacting the Team. I’ve inquired about the rest of the parties, and everyone has their own strange methods. Legal professionals don’t usually handle integrating payment methods; that’s not their job, my friend,
