This isn’t a question, but rather a helpful tip for anyone new to this like me.
If you have to change or add code, and you are afraid to mess up your site, simple click the Actions Button, but instead of hitting Edit Code, click Duplicate.
It will create a Duplicate Website of what you are working on. Then you can edit the code of the copy, which you’ll be able to preview the changes and see if you like it. If you totally mess it up, no problem…just delete it and duplicate the original again.
If you do like the changes and everything worked, now you’ll know what code you used, and where to place it, so you will go back up to the published one, and go add the code in the correct places.
By the way, it’s a complete duplicate, so if you added apps, they come with it. So if you happen to need to add code regarding the app, it will be there as well to see the results.
This is also nice if you just want to have a backup site before adding any code to the original.
Bonus tip: If you ever did mess up the code on the original site, and didn’t have that backup, don’t panic. This is a tedious solution, but you can add a new theme of the same name. So if using Dawn, go get a new Dawn. Open your shopify account on 2 screens, then on each screen, click edit code on the original and on the new one. Then you can go to the edited lines of code on the original, and compare to the new one, and see what you did that is different.
Good luck with your new business!
