How can I add a sitemap link to my Dawn theme footer?

Topic summary

Goal: Add a sitemap link in the Dawn theme footer after submitting the sitemap to Google Search Console.

  • Initial guidance: Add the sitemap link to the same navigation menu used in the footer.
  • Attempt: A footer menu item was created at “/tools/sitemap,” but a screenshot shows an unexpected/incorrect result (details unclear from the image).

Recommendation shift: Prefer an HTML sitemap (human‑readable page) over linking to the XML sitemap (made for crawlers) to improve user experience.

Key benefits of an HTML sitemap:

  • Organizes large websites so visitors can find pages quickly.
  • Helps search engines understand site structure via clear internal linking.
  • Reveals internal linking opportunities to aid SEO.
  • Highlights navigation areas that may need improvement.

How to implement (suggested approach):

  • Use the “SEO: Image Optimizer Page Speed” app by Avada to auto‑generate an HTML sitemap page listing all site pages.
  • Add that generated page to the Footer Menu via Navigation > Menu > Footer Menu.

Status: No confirmed resolution yet. Next step is to try the HTML sitemap approach and re-add the generated page to the footer menu.

Hello Jenny, thanks for your quick reply.

I create a new page in my footer nav menu as “/tools/sitemap” and save it, but the result is this down below as you see in pic

Hi @Eleftheria2022 ,

Instead of adding an XML sitemap to your footer menu, consider adding an HTML sitemap since it’s a clickable list of pages on a website, which is more beneficial to your visitors, thus, enhancing your user experience.

Here’re the main benefits of an HTML sitemap:

  • Organize large websites: It serves as a directory for all web pages, allowing users to quickly find what they’re looking for.

  • Make it easier for search engines to categorize your content: ell-organized HTML sitemaps can help crawlers more quickly understand which pages are most important.

  • Find internal linking opportunities: It allows you to identify internal links, which are also critical to improving SEO.

  • Identify areas to improve site navigation: You can also use your sitemap to see how you can improve your website’s overall navigation.

In order to generate an HTML sitemap, you can refer to our SEO:Image Optimizer Page Speed app. It has an option to automatically build an HTML sitemap that includes all of the pages on your website in form of a page. Then you can add this sitemap page to your footer menu in Shopify from Navigation > Menu > Footer Menu.

Here’s what a generated HTML sitemap by AVADA looks like:
