How can I add an employee to my full team on the basic plan?

Topic summary

Main issue: Merchant on the Basic plan has reached the staff limit and wants to add an employee. When trying to add a collaborator via Shopify Help, they’re redirected to a security page that errors. Screenshots were provided to show the error.

Guidance provided:

  • If the person is a Shopify Partner, grant access via “collaborator access” following the linked help doc.
  • Troubleshoot the error by clearing cache/cookies and using an incognito window (may be a local issue).
  • If the problem persists, contact Shopify Support through the Help Center and select “I still need help” to reach an advisor.

Follow‑up question: Another user asks if it’s allowed to add a supplier as a collaborator (so they can view orders) instead of upgrading for an extra staff account, noting the supplier also runs a Shopify store and they don’t want to violate policy.

Status: No confirmed resolution to the error reported. The policy question about using collaborator access for a supplier remains unanswered in the thread. Collaborator access is described as intended for Shopify Partners.

Good morning

I want to add an employee to my store since the plan I have does not allow me to add people to the team because it is full. I have the basic plan.

How do I add a collaborator? I go to help on Shopify and it redirects me to a “security” page but the page gives an error. follow photo below

Can you help?

Hi, @Novuxashop !

Thanks for reaching out. If you’re looking to allow collaborator access for a Shopify Partner, you can follow the steps outlined in this help document. If you’re still getting an error message, I recommend clearing your cache and cookies and/or using an incognito window as it may be due to a local issue.

If the issue persists, feel free to get in touch with us through the Help Center! Simply enter the details of your issue into the chat assistant and click “I still need help” to be connected with a Support Advisor. We’d be happy to investigate this further for you.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Old post but, is this allowed? I have a single supplier that needs access to my orders to fulfill them. I don’t want to pay $50 a month more just so I can have 1 staff account to give them access. Would it be within policy to add them as a collaborator? They also run a shopify store and I don’t want to get anyone in trouble here.
