Hi there @Saurabh9395

You can add care instructions, material information, and dimension information to your products using Metafields. The metafields feature allows you to save information that isn’t usually captured in the Shopify Admin. It also allows you to display that saved information on your storefront. You can read more about setting up and using metafields on this page here.

To use metafields there are ultimately three steps:

  1. Create the metafield definition following these steps here.
  2. Add the metafield value to the correct part of your store following these steps here.
  3. Connect metafields to your theme to display specialized information on your online store following these steps here.

I’ve included an example of what these steps may look like for you below:

Step 1: Create metafield definition

Step 2: Add metafield value to the correct part of your store (the product page in this example)

Step 3: Connect metafield to your theme

Don’t hesitate to reply back if you try that out and have any trouble with it. I’d be happy to help you further if you need it.

Hi Erin, this was super helpful.
Is there a way to hide certain blocks on product pages if they are not populated in the product backend?

I have some food items where it would be good to put the ingredients in there own block, but I don’t want the ingredients tab to show on non-food products, if that makes sense?

Hi there @prettyrocksclub . I’m glad my answer helped you!

Your question makes perfect sense. In your situation I would recommend creating a separate product page template for your non-food products. Then you can design that product page template to not include the ingredients section.

After creating and designing these templates you would want to assign Product Page Template A (the one set up with the ingredients section) to your food products and Product Page Template B (the one with the ingredients section removed) to all of your non-food products. You can read more about how to create and manage page templates on this page here. You can also read more about using sections and blocks on this page. If you are looking for the steps to remove a block, those steps can be found here.

Do you mind if I ask what you sell in addition to the food products? I also wanted to share this blog we’ve written with some tips to help merchants with online food businesses.

Thanks so much Erin, this has been a big help!
It is a gift shop of sorts, so just the odd snacks at the moment, mainly non food items.

Hi @prettyrocksclub . You’re welcome! I’m happy I could help you out.

Since your shop is like a gift shop I would recommend taking a look at selling gift cards if you haven’t had a chance to yet! You can read more about selling gift cards on this page. I think it would be a beneficial addition to your shop.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions. I’m happy to help further.

Hey erin,

I used the directions above, but when i use the dynamic source on one specific product it still changes it for all. Im using the theme dawn and trying to make the “care instructions” say different things for all different products Thank you!
