How can I add custom question fields at checkout on my platform?

Is there a way to add customized question fields at checkout? For example, “Do you have any food allergies?” I’m not looking for customer feedback or ratings.

I’m selling a subscription-style box, and need to do some minor customizations for each buyer, such as not poisoning them with an allergen. The last time I did this I was on another platform that allowed me to gather this information as part of the checkout process. Is there a way to do it on Shopify?

Well, not the the Checkout unless you have Shopify Plus but you can do it in the cart.
