How can I add images to my header menu links?

Dear Shopify, I’ve recently followed a guide on how to add Images to my Header Menu, which worked fine.

However-.. I cant figure out how to add Images to ‘Links’, as in menu items that are not collections, pages but simply link to another external site.

By the way: I use Dawn Theme, and added images to my collections/pages in the header using Metafields.

The easiest way to help me is to explain, if possible, how to add a Metafield for images to: Navigation > Menu > Edit Menu Item

No Apps please, i’ve been doing everything coding so i’d like to fix this last issue the same way.

I rather not download any apps, it should be possible to do this fully from Settings > Custom Data > and by adding some Code to my Theme if im correct. My Metaobjects already contain options for:

Products Variants Collections Customers Orders Draft orders Locations Pages Blogs Blog posts Market

But not for URL / Links, my question is basically how to add this.

Shopify themes can’t directly add images to menu items linking to external sites. Here are your options:

  1. Text Link with Image:

    • Create a text menu item with a descriptive label.
    • Use an emoji (globe for external links) next to the text if your theme allows icons.

  2. Button with Image:

    • Create a button element with your desired image.
    • Set the button link to the external website.
    • Position the button strategically in your header.

  3. Third-Party App (Advanced): Explore Shopify apps for “navigation menus” or “custom menu links” that might allow image addition.
