How can I add more product variants for selling tiles online?

Topic summary

Need: Add more tile attributes beyond color/size (e.g., Finish: Matte/Polished; Edge: Rectified/Rounded) and make them filterable on collection (category) pages.

Proposed approaches:

  • Native Shopify options/variants: Manually add option titles (Finish, Edge) per product. Alternatively, use metafields (custom data fields) to store these attributes.
  • Both native options and metafields can be used for storefront filtering.

App-based option:

  • Easify Product Options app (free plan) allows unlimited custom options, bypassing Shopify’s limits of 3 options and 100 variants per product.
  • Limitation: Custom options created via third‑party apps cannot be filtered on collection pages due to Shopify constraints.

Status/outcomes:

  • OP requested guidance on “how.”
  • App developer offered help setting up custom options.
  • No final decision yet; if collection-page filtering is mandatory, native options or metafields remain the viable paths; app adds flexibility but won’t meet the filtering requirement.

Hi guys,

Is there anyone that have a solution on this?

We sell tiles online, we need more product variants than just color, size etc.

We need example these:

Finnish: Matte, Polished

Edge: Rectified, Rounded

These also need to be filterable on cateogy (collection) page.

Hi,

You can use them, but you`d have to type the titles (Finish, Edge etc.) every time you create your product. Otherwise, you can use a metafields.

Both are filterable.

But how? What is your suggestion?

Hi @KGSweden ,

With the Easify Product Options app (Free plan available), you can create unlimited custom options. This is especially handy since Shopify imposes restrictions of only 3 options and 100 variants per product. If you require more flexibility, using a app is the way to go.

However, it’s worth noting that, due to Shopify’s constraints on collection page customization, custom options created by third-party apps cannot be filtered directly on the collection page.

If you’re open to exploring the Easify app despite this limitation, please let me know. I’d be happy to guide you through the quick and straightforward setup process for your custom options :hugs: .
