How can I add my background to the Dawn theme?

Switch to a new theme and i would like to know how to add my background to dawn theme.

my original code was

body,

html {

background: url({{ ‘insert your png file’ | asset_url }});

background-color: $color-body;

background-repeat: repeat-y;

background-size:contain;

}

I have added the code in a few places but no luck
