How can I add my charity to an ecommerce platform?

Hello all!

Sorry if this is a silly question or in the wrong place, but I’m new to shopify. I’m a volunteer at a small charity, and a company who sells things through the shopify app suggested they would like to donate a portion of their sales to our charity. They say we would need to add our charity to shopify for them to do this.

Is there a guide or step by step as to how to do this? I can only find guides for donating to charities already on shopify, not how to get yours added.

If your charity is listed as a 501c3 you may already be searchable on the Shopping Gives app

I’ve only used this app a handful of times, but I liked their lookup options for 501c3’s.

It seems this app only works for 501cs in America and Canada. We’re based in the UK. Do you know if there’s a UK version?

Ah, I’m not sure about that.

The only thing I’ve come across is a partnership between ShoppingGives and PayPal Giving Fund. Other than that, I don’t think the ShoppingGives app will work for UK stores. Sorry I can’t be more helpful here.

If the business would like to donate a portion of every sale to your charity, they can consider using the Portion of Sale feature available in our Zestard Easy Donation app.

This feature allows merchants to:
• Donate a fixed amount or a percentage from every order.
• Make the donation from their own revenue, so customers are not charged any additional amount.

The Portion of Sale widget can be displayed on the Cart Page and also in the Cart Drawer, depending on the theme.

You actually do not register this with Shopify directly. It is handled by whatever donation app that company is running, like Pledge, ShoppingGives, or Shop for Good, since those apps manage their own charity databases.

Just ask the company which app they use. The whole setup happens on that app’s platform, not inside Shopify.

Usually, you just go to the app’s site, look up your charity, and verify your registration status like your EIN. Once you are in their system, any store using that app can pick you. Once you get the app name, just ping their support. They will get you sorted, and it’s almost always free for nonprofits.
