How to add vendors in Shopify (Minimal theme):
- In Admin > Products > Product page > Organization section, type a new vendor name in the Vendor field and Save. You can show the vendor on product and collection pages via Online Store > Themes > Customize > Product pages > “Show product vendor.”
Vendor access/consignment needs apps (not native):
- Vendor Consignment: store-owner–controlled setup, vendor login to track orders, commission calculations, PayPal payouts (except Canada).
- Multi Vendor Marketplace: vendors upload products, customer-to-vendor questions, automatic order reminders; payout method unclear—contact developer.
- Multi Vendor Reporting: vendor notifications, logins, commission calculations; payouts unclear—contact developer. All offer trials; install and test, then uninstall before billing.
Troubleshooting and reporting behavior:
- If “Add” isn’t visible, type the new name and use the dropdown arrows to create it; for existing products, this should propagate. If it doesn’t appear elsewhere, log out, clear browser cache, and try again.
- Analytics/Reports reflect product details at time of sale. Changing a product’s vendor later won’t retroactively change past reports; mixed date ranges may show both vendors.
Open items:
- Recent users report only being able to filter existing vendors (no add option). It’s unclear if the UI changed; no confirmed resolution yet.
