Hi @Welid ,
Thank you for getting in touch. If you want to make a Product A a variant of Product B, you will need to head to the Products section of the Shopify admin, select Product B, and add Product A as a variant. Please note that this is not an automatic process and you will need to manually add the product as a variant instead. If you can tell me more about what sort of products you’re selling and what product you would like to be a variant instead, I can perhaps offer more specialized guidance on how best to approach this.
In terms of how your cart looks when multiple variants of the same product are added, they will display as separate line items. If you view the example from my test store below, you can see that the two medium bananas I have added to my cart are listed separately from the one large banana I have added:
You can see here that both the product and variant titles are listed here, and if I had used different images for each variant, they would also display next to each respective variant. I hope this has helped answer your question but please let me know if you’re have any further queries about this.
Hey Victor,
Thank you for your reply. But how can i do that to connect product A with product B? I’m making a store where you can buy plants but all my pots must be variant products.
I looked every where in Shopify even tested with code but nothing. I’m stuck can you help me please
Also when I wanne buy both products then they must be separated in the cart for tax later.
Hi @Welid ,
You can’t connect two products, per se, but you can approach this in different ways. One option would be to just list all of the plants and pots separately, but this would allow customers to checkout with just a plant and no pots. Would this be an issue? This would mean that the products would be listed separately in the cart and taxes would be broken down individually.
Is there a reason why you need the sales tax to be listed separately for both the plants and the pots? You can still charge the correct amount of tax on both even if the pots are listed as variants for the plants you sell. If, for example, you charge $5 for a plant and $10 for each of the different pots you sell, you can set the prices for each pot variant to be $15, so when the customer checks out they are still paying the total price for the plant and the pot and the correct amount of sales tax will still be charged.
Hey @Victor_5 ,
Yess my pots and plant need to be separately because the pot is 21% tax and plants 6% so for papier work it is obligated to be it separately in the cart but total price is still showing.
I made a pot collection and a plant collection and yeah some pots are made for some plants. That’s why I wanne make pot products to variant but and if you buy the plant and the pot(variant) but separately.
I know it’s difficult but I really appreciate your help ![]()
thank you
Hi @Welid ,
Ah right, I see. Taxes are charged at the product level, and not at the variant level, so you could not have one tax rate for the product and another for the variant. If you want different tax rates to be charged for your plants and for your pots, you’ll need them to be listed as individual products. You can set different tax rates for your store using tax overrides.
I am not sure if there is a clear solution to your problem, but I think your best solution would like be a bundle app. These apps allow for merchants to bundle products together and for customers to buy them together rather than individually, so it might be worth using one of these apps to create different bundle options containing different plants and different pots. The products will still be listed individually in your store, allowing for different tax rates to be charged, but this does mean that customers may still be able to purchase items individually. My recommendation would be to browse through the different apps and their features, and if you find one you like you can contact the app developers directly and ask them if their app will work in the way you’d want it to.
One thing I will re-iterate is that there are some customers who may wish to buy only a plant, as they have their own pots, and forcing them to buy a pot as well may discourage customers from making a purchase. You may want to consider selling individual plants in some sort of temporary container or pot that is designed to be discarded when the customer receives the plant, allowing for them to pot the plant at home themselves.
