How can I add sub collections to an existing collection via API?

Greetings,

I am looking forward to learn how to add sub collections into the existing collection?

For example

I have 3 collections

Cars Toys Food

I would like to have sub levels of colletions into the Cars section

Such as

Cars

Tires

Brands

However the main concern is i would love to have it in the API i just dont want to display in menu section.

So when i finaly fetch the collections data from the api i will have corresponding products.
