How can I add unique serial numbers to each product?

Hello Cristina

Basically, the features and functions of Serialize are quite sufficient so far…

Except for the fact that the serial numbers must be managed per ordered product on a separate page than within the order itself….

Basically, what would be good and more efficient would be if one could enter an ordered product’s serial number within the order’s detail page, not in a separate app page.

Hope that is clear.

Best regards
Marc from Rehasys

Hi @EJC our solution Simple RFID generates unique serial numbers for items regardless of whether they are the same size/color/type etc. The serialization allows you to track age of product, sell by/expiration date, cost etc. This is all done internally in Simple RFID when you print RFID stickers for your products. All of the serialized data is tracked on our side. We developed an app available in the Shopify App Store which allows you to compare your RFID data against your Shopify counts, identify discrepancies & sync corrections.

@Kraigc this is also available via our Shopify App. When a customer makes an online purchase you are able to scan the item to verify order accuracy which also captures the item’s serial number (and related details), then links it with the corresponding Shopify order. It allows you to trace exactly who purchased what down to the serial number.

We can help you do exactly this @guitjoe !

@jhartwell give us a call and let us demo this exact feature you are looking for.

@CoreAir our solution allows you to track items by serial number, then scan them in and out of inventory to trace these serialized items all the way to the customer! Check out our app!

@eyasiya we have exactly what you are looking for. Our RFID solution is integrated with Shopify and allows you to generate serialized tags for every product in your inventory, then track this item all the way until it leaves your inventory matching it up with the related order it was fulfilled. Give us a call and we can give you a demo!

@HSSFatima our solution Simple RFID does this exactly. We work with a lot of vendors that manage consignment product and we help them manage product at multiple locations using serialized tags. Give us a call and we can give you a demo and show you exactly how it works.

Hi,

What I am looking for is a way to track serial numbers of products already given. Not to produce a serial number on the fly.

We sell electronics and every product from our factory already has a serial number and barcode on the box. What I need is a way for my warehouse to pull up an order to fulfill, pick the items on the order and scan the barcode on the box and log the serial number for each item.

Right now, I created an order-level metafield called “serial number” so that it’s tracked internally. However, the serial number must be manually entered for each item.

We sell to distributors and end users. Distributors could order say 50 pieces, of different models and different series. Each with an established serial number. Trying to put all 50 codes into one field, and then having to dig out and match up which serial number goes with which specific model is a difficult task. Also, having to make sure they don’t miss logging a serial number is an issue. I also don’t want to make up 150 metafields for serial numbers. This is a major miss on the part of Shopify to provide a per-line item placeholder for information.

@Max_Sadlowski any update on serial numbers natively in Shopify POS?

It’s a shame to think that Shopify is losing out on millions in revenue from Apple Authorized Campus Stores who require their POS systems to include serial numbers on receipts for them to be considered valid in the eyes of Apple.

We’ve been ready to make the switch but just can’t even consider it because there’s no system in place for tracking serials.

Hope to hear an update regarding this soon!

Hi,
We are searching for the same functionality (You can choose the number from 1-100) . If you did find a solution please share…

@Max_Sadlowski , we would be looking for this in online-only as well. We are an online-only store and are desperate for Serial Number support.

Hi everyone

We’re exploring the idea of building a Shopify app that helps merchants track and assign unique serial numbers to products — especially for in-store (POS) sales.

If you’ve ever struggled with serial number tracking for returns, warranties, shrink prevention, or compliance, we’d love to hear from you.

Please take 2 - 5 minutes to fill out this short form and help us build something that truly solves your needs:

Hi @EJC @DonDrummStudios @Kraigc @guitjoe @jhartwell and others who are looking for serialization for Shopify. You can now utilize SKUSavvy for serialization tracking of unique inventory and sell it via Shopify POS via the ScanSavvy app. So this will enable you to start off the serialization process by creating a PO and scanning in serial numbers upon receiving. You can have serial numbers as optional, required, or disabled on your product as well.

Once you have serialized inventory you can install the ScanSavvy Shopify POS extension which will enable you to scan the serialized inventory directly from the POS app, which will pull up the unique serialized inventory piece to put it in the cart. Upon making the sale, that unique serial number is taken out of stock on your Shopify and SKUSavvy account so serial number tracking is aligned and traced back to that specific sale.

Other features of SKUSavvy serialization:

  • Combine serialization with lot tracking and expiration dates
  • Store serial numbers to bin locations for simple pick-pack-ship operations
  • Limit serial number sales based on available stock
  • Serial number barcode generation
  • Easily connect serial numbers to sell through Shopify POS

Get the serialization app and add the ScanSavvy Shopify POS app for full serial number tracking. Reach out with questions or to get a demo.

Hey @EJC @Nemanja_Janjic @RSL_IT @AlcoClothing you might like to check out SKUSavvy paired with ScanSavvy which is a full inventory and fulfillment solution that enables serialization and Shopify POS serial number scanning. Using the combination of apps you can place purchases and check=in inventory with serial numbers, then store these serial numbers so they can be scanned during POS check-out and this stock will be depleted from your inventory.

Other features of SKUSavvy serialization:

  • Combine serialization with lot tracking and expiration dates
  • Store serial numbers to bin locations for simple pick-pack-ship operations
  • Limit serial number sales based on available stock
  • Serial number barcode generation

Get the free SKUSavvy app here and download the ScanSavvy app from the app store.

As much as I’d love to use SKUSavvy, there are a few of things that are showstoppers:

  1. We need a solution that is fully integrated into the Shopify Admin, not yet another external portal.

  2. We are an online-only shop, no POS.

  3. We currently only log SNs at time of ship (in shipstation), primarily for warranty purposes. We hate having to go out to Shipstation to do warranty verification, but that’s what works for the moment. Our ideal solution would put the Serial Number in a Shopify Admin searchable field, either tied to the order or the customer.

I do appreciate the effort, however!

I’ll be deciding on next steps very soon, so if anyone else wants to share their input, now’s the moment. Thank you

Hey there,
Have you tried this app yet?
https://apps.shopify.com/serial-number-manager

It looks exactly like what you described.

I think that app was called something else in a previous life and about 8 months ago, we evaluated it and found it wanting.

However, the interface seems to have undergone a dramatic update and it seems much more well thought-out. So, we’re reviewing it now–the fact that it uses the built-in Shopify metafields and is integrated into Admin is huge for us. I’m in the process of creating a MESA Flow that would update the metafields when the product is shipped (in Shipstation) to see if that will work for us.

Hello,

Have you tried “Serializer - Product Tracking”?

https://apps.shopify.com/serializer-product-tracking

I’ve recently added the capability to edit items (serial numbers and any other unique item information) within the order page in Shopify admin and plan to port the existing features or create new ones within Shopify admin pages for better user experience.
