Hi Shopify Designers,
This is my site: https://adriprints.com/
I’m trying to better understand how to adjust photos/images because the few options available within the Dawn2.0 template don’t seem to be enough. For example, in my ‘books’ section (Books – Adriprints) the covers of the books are being strangely cropped. They look huge and out of proportion with the composition of the page, and even when I click ‘adjust to image’ or ‘square’ it still does a very awkward job of cropping the imagery.
Thoughts on how to customize imagery for better visual balance?
Also, am I limited to 1 call to action button under each section?
Thanks for your time.
Hey there!
Dont blame the theme if you made strange adjustments, that lead to this behavior…
Your classes should be overworked though. Just a hint concerning pictures. The best way to keep a clean design is to upload pictures all of the same size and ratio. This gives you the best results.
After you change your code, it could look like this:
Unfortunately, books are designed with different sized covers. So, using the same aspect ratio is not an option if I am using the images from the publisher. Each book cover is different for each book. Sometimes 8x10, sometimes 10x10, sometimes 8x11, that’s the publisher and book designer’s call.
Always uploading photos of the same size seems like an unrealistic expectation of creatives and also a strange suggestion given that headers are different sizes/ratios than product images, etc. I moved my entire site from Squarespace in January and photographic adjustments were A LOT EASIER on that platform.
Are you saying that the Dawn 2.0 theme is limited in the scope of how you can easily adjust images? Not sure what your suggestion means.
Also, I have no idea what you mean by this:
“Your classes should be overworked though.”
Also, I want it to have the book cover (with correct proportions) on the left, and text on the right.
Well, as I said, you have manually customised classes which lead to those strange appearances. Its not necessary to have same sizes and ratios. Ratios can be kept automatically on resize through your code. You will have to rework your customized css to achieve the appearance you want.
I think if you want to arrange your design very specific there is no way doing it without editing your code.
I have never customized the CSS.
Could it be the service I used to do my blog transfer customized it somehow? Because it wasn’t me!
