Hi Imogen,
Thank you for the reply, but those solutions will not work for our business. Here’s why:
-
We also sell houseplants at various prices from 8.99 to over $300, which we want to track the sales of separately from flower arrangements. If we use “custom sale” for every houseplant and flower arrangement item, they won’t be able to be tracked separately.
-
Applying a discount isn’t feasible as we can’t expect our cashiers to be doing math several times during a single transaction to calculate how much to discount each item, not to mention when an item’s price is ABOVE the base price of the standard product.
Like I said in my original reply, I asked for this feature 8 years ago and was told that it would be passed along to the development team, but clearly it hasn’t been made a priority. I’m just very surprised as I’m sure there are many other businesses who sell variable priced items. This honestly might be the dealbreaker that prevents us from switching to POS Pro, which is very unfortunate.

We’re in the same boat. This is a very basic feature people have been requesting for literally years. We’re looking for other options as well. Too bad!

Changing a price is a simple function. Shopify POS needs this function ASAP!

This does not give us the ability to change a price upwards. For example: The cost of an item rises, so we raise the price. We relabeled everything on the floor, but we forgot to change it in admin. A customer walks up to the counter with the now $12 item, but it rings up at $10. We have no way to reprice the item during the sale. Support tells us to create a custom item. Problem: the actual item is not taken out of inventory, and the COGS on the custom item is $0. All of this creates a lot more work for me. I’d prefer to have the same function every other POS system has.
This app works but it is slow and clunky. I am sad that this is the best option.
@Iris its been a year almost and despite the big shopify push into POS this feature still seems to be one that shopify doesnt think is worth caring about.
Any news on if this is ever a feature shopify intends to roll out? At this point many of us are going to have to find other POS systems because this is a huge missing feature.
Been evaluating Shopify and ran into the need to increase price of product at checkout. I was able to go into Admin and adjust the product’s price and then go back to POS and apply a 1 cent discount, then remove the discount and the the product’s new price showed up! Seems that is the only way to get POS to refresh the product’s price during entry.
