Goal: sell a fixed-price cocktail box where customers choose 4 drinks from 22 options (duplicates allowed). Native Shopify limits (3 options per product, variant constraints) make this unworkable without apps.
Constraints and approaches:
Options apps: allow custom selectors on a single product, but offer limited inventory control. A recommended free app (Variant Option Product Options) can add four required dropdowns (Cocktail 1–4) so customers can pick any mix, including duplicates. Screenshots were shared to show settings (images central to the setup explanation).
Bundle apps: two types. Front-end bundle builders add items as separate cart lines and can be removed individually; virtual bundles map a single product to component SKUs for inventory sync but limit flexible customer choice. BYOB was suggested to let shoppers pick any N items from a collection if each drink is a separate product.
Latest updates:
The options app meets the core need; configuration provided to enable duplicate selections via four required dropdowns.
Store URL and password were shared; design feedback given (clean backgrounds, logo via Canva). Resolution: partially addressed; implementation in progress, thread open.

If I explain what I am trying to achieve I am really hoping one of you good folks will be able to help me!
I will be selling boxes of cocktails through the platform. Customers will be able to pick four drinks per box, out of a current total of 22 choices. The box itself is a fixed price, and the drinks won’t be sold individually. For context, we sell 11 cocktails with a boozy and non-alcoholic choice, for a total of 22.
I am really puzzling over how to make this work in the Shopify system. There is a limit of three options which kills off the idea of having an option for all 11 and having a boozy and non-alc variant. And that doesn’t work if the customer decides they want four of exactly the same drink.
I also don’t think I can have one option (the box) and 22 variants because again the customer needs to be able to pick four.
I’ve thought about having each drink as a product in and of itself, but then there would be nothing to stop someone from picking less than four, or like 15 of them.
I am aware that there are third party add ons that enable me to manage products better, but if I can do it through the Shopify solution then that would be better. Alternatively, can someone recommend me an add-on?
Whilst I am not new to ecommerce in an abstract sense, I am new to Shopify and in starting my own business in particular. So I hope I’m not coming across as lazy! Just a dazzled dude in need of some assistance.
One type is creating custom pages in your theme and letting your buyers select different items as part of a bundle before check out. These are then added as individual order lines and involve adding a discount code. The issue here is the buyer can remove some items from cart.
Other type is creating a virtual item (normal single product) that states in contains a certain set of components. You would need to use a third party app to bundle each kit up with the relevant SKUs. Our bundle app will let you connect up all your products to correct SKUs and we then update their inventory based on the component stock level. However, the buyer will have limited options to select from and can’t exactly pick and choose from a wide selection.
The other solution as you have too many variants is to use an options app which isn’t good for inventory control but the selections are added as one line after being selected. Check out:
Thanks for posting to the community forums. I hope your day is going well!
Will there be other products in your store that have any of the same variant options? If not, and this is the only product that has these options, then using a variant options app would be your best bet. The app Variant Option Product Options is completely free and will allow you to achieve what you are looking for! There are a ton of other free apps that provide the same feature, you can check the list out here.
Bundle apps are great, however they are only necessary if you have multiple products pulling that same inventory. If your variants inventory is only within this product, and no others, then you would not need to use a bundler app.
Unfortunately, there is no way to achieve a solution that doesn’t require installing an app. However, the free option provided above should do the trick!
In the meantime, I would love it if you could provide your domain so that I can take a look! I might be able to provide some additional support and tips before you launch. Additionally, I would take a look at our Launch Checklist to ensure you have completed all necessary steps for you open.
Okay I’ve played with that app and is very much more along the line I’m looking for.
However, its only limitation is that it gives multiple choice out of all 22 drinks. Great, but what if the customer wants to order say two of each to make up there four drinks? Can this app do something like this:
After some playing around I was able to figure out what settings to apply to achieve what you are looking for. Here is a screenshot of it on my test theme:
I pulled up your site, but it looks like the password is still enabled. I love the colour scheme so far though! The dusty rose is definitely on trend. If you are ok with it, send me the password and I would be happy to browse around.
I did notice you don’t have a logo yet. I absolutely recommend checking out canva.com! They allow you to create super clean, and professional logos for absolutely free.
That’s amazing- looking forward to having a play around with that.

Glad you like the colour scheme, it will look a lot more impressive when actual photos are up instead of the placeholders I have used so far. One thing I am very interested in is incorporating some more of the gold ribbons you can see in the logo. Not entirely sure how to do that though and I have zero coding experience, if that’s what is required.
Our app, BYOB allows users to set up selecting any N items from a collection or specific products.
If you can make each drink as a product with an image, you can display each one in our custom product template. It would be better than a text description of the options.
I took a long look at your site and it looks great so far! As you are just in the beginning phases of putting it together, there is not much feedback I can provide yet. Once you are done, please come back as I would love to continue to support you!
One small bit of feedback I would recommend, is to use a blank background for the cocktails on the product list page. This will add a super clean look. However your placeholder photo with the greenery is beautiful! You should reserve those shots for the homepage. Also, make sure to get some shots of the products in action!
P.S. Make sure to utilize that Launch Checklist above!
