How can I animate a default hamburger menu?

I am trying to animate the default hamburger menu that is in shopify. I do not have any themes installed. I want it so that when i click on it, the menu becomes an X and it shows the menu. When you click on the X, it’ll hide the menu. I have done this many times using HTML and CSS but I’ve never done it in shopify. if you could help, that’ll be awesome!
