How can I assign unique tags to each product variant?

Hi,

Is there a way to give each variant of a product its own tags?

At the moment, I have a product (eg. Tshirt) available in various colors for men, women, boys, girls.

I have listed each product 4 times. For each collection, the tag allows the product to show up in the right collection - eg. a tag of “men” will ensure that product shows up in the “men’s” collection.

But I would like to have just ONE listing per product, instead of 4, and have variants for men, women, boys girls WITHIN the same product listing.

However, I need tags to allow each variant to end up in the right collection.

At present Shopify allows me to have tags per product but not per variant.

Please help.

There are no variant level tags.

It sounds like your creating automated collections. Have you considered using “Variant’s title” as a condition? Even so, your likely going to want to display the specific variant on the collection page and have it automatically selected on the PDP. Unless your theme offers it, it’s likely going to need some special mods to your theme.
