How can I attach my newly purchased domain to my online store?

Hi Team,

I recently purchased the domain hourglassme.com and I cannot attatch it to my store. Please help.

Likewise, once it is attatched, will the website that I am creating currently for my business move to that domain name where I can continue editing it?

Seems like you want to transfer a third-party domain to your Shopify store, is this true?

If so, you could refer to this help doc and video which will walk you step by step through how to connect your third-party domain to Shopify, then you need to transfer this domain to Shopify and set it as a primary domain.

After you change your primary domain, the new primary domain is displayed to customers who visit your online store.

I am having a similar problem i purchased a domain through shopify whist setting up a store . I closed my first store and opened a new one hoping to use the same domain but i wont allow me to connect ot to my shopify store; i have the transfer code (sent by shopify) but when i go to settings - domains- connect; it wont verify

please help

Thanks for posting to the forums! It sounds like you purchased a third party domain and are looking to connect it to Shopify is that correct? There are a few ways to go about this, by either transferring the domain fully to Shopify hosting, or simply connecting the domain to point to Shopify.

The difference between connecting, and transferring, is when transferring the domain you are moving the backend of the domain to Shopify for hosting. Whereas connecting the domain, without transferring, means the domain is hosted externally to Shopify, but “points” to your Shopify store.

Can you elaborate on “I cannot attach it to my store?” Is there an error you are experiencing? Or are you stuck on the steps? More information will help us, help you!

When a domain is connected to Shopify, it does not change the way you edit or access your Shopify account. It will simply update what web address your customers use to view your site. If your domain is a third party domain and you only point it to Shopify (not transfer it) then you will use the third party platform for any DNS changes. When it comes to editing your store’s appearance, however, that will still be done in Shopify.
