I am proposing to sell by Shopify a book I am publishing. It worked well before. This time the book will be printed on-demand and I need to convert the order from the customer to an order and payment to the printer who will ship direct to the customer. Is there any smart way to do this other than manually transferring the data from incoming order to outgoing order? Strangely the print-on-demand business does not seem to have thought of ‘drop-shipping’
Topic summary
Shopify seller wants to automate on-demand book fulfillment: convert Shopify customer orders into printer orders and payments so the printer ships directly to customers (drop shipping). Seeks an alternative to manually copying order data.
Suggested approach:
- Confirm whether the print-on-demand printer offers an API (application programming interface) or similar integration endpoint.
- If yes, build a custom app/integration to push Shopify order details to the printer’s platform automatically.
Notes:
- No plug-and-play solution was identified in the discussion.
- Payment handling specifics were not covered.
Status and next steps:
- Unresolved; depends on vendor API availability.
- Action item: verify printer API/webhook support; if available, scope a custom integration. If not, continue manual transfer or consider a different vendor with Shopify-compatible integrations.
Does your vendor provide API access or something to connect with their platform.
If the answer is yes, we need a custom app which push your order details to their platform.
