How can I bulk edit metafields and fix missing variant qty in product export?

Topic summary

Two main issues raised:

  1. Missing variant quantity column in product export: One store’s CSV export is missing the “Variant Inventory Qty” column, while five other stores with identical plans export correctly. The cause remains unidentified, though it was present in exports from the previous week.

  2. Bulk editing metafields: User seeks methods to update metafield values across multiple products simultaneously.

Solutions offered:

  • Standard Shopify product exports should include the variant quantity column by default. If using third-party export apps, check their field selection settings.

  • For bulk metafield management, options include:

    • Third-party apps (like MetafieldsGuru) offering Excel-like editors, bulk editors, and CSV import functionality
    • Recent Shopify native update: Shopify now supports metafield management through native import/export (video tutorial provided)

Status: The missing quantity column issue remains unresolved for the affected store. The metafield bulk editing question has multiple viable solutions available.

Hi @Sabih ,

I’ve just tried exporting products to a CSV file on 2 dev stores and both files did have the “Variant Inventory Qty” column. If you’re using a third-party app to export the data, you may want to check its configuration, as some of these apps might require manual selection of each product field.

As for editing metafields in bulk, there’s no default tool in Shopify for that (at least I don’t know any :sweat_smile: ). The good news is that there are multiple bulk data management features in our app:

editing functionality:

  1. Excel-like editor;
  2. Bulk editor;
  3. CSV import ;
    Depending on your goal, you can either edit metafields using the spreadsheet-like UI of Excel-like editor, manage the “global” metafields (metafields that have the same value for all products) in a single click with the bulk editor, or import the data from a CSV file.
