How can I change a manual collection to automated on my online store?

Hi team,

Hope you are well,

I want to change my manual collection to automated collection in order to list some products in it as I am adding products via tag option but for manual collection i am unable to find it’s tag.

Please let me know how can i edit collection and change it into automated, when i open collection to edit it there’s no such option to make it automated.

I don’t think you can change the collection type.

I would just create a new collection, and copy the details from the old one to the new one.

But first, update the url of the old collection so that you can use the same url, to maintain your SEO.

Joe is right, you cannot change a collection type.

But no worry. Switching from manual collection to automated should be easy peasy.

You can do the following to create an automated collection to a manual collection quickly.

  1. In your Shopify admin > visit Products > Add filter > choose the manual collection that you want to change to automated
  2. Select all products > navigate to the bottom menu > select the 3-dot option > Add tags > add a specific tag(s) to these products so you can use them to define the conditions for the new automated collection later.
  3. Go to Collections page > Create a collection > Choose the automated option > type in the tag(s) that you just defined for the aforementioned products
  4. Et voila :slightly_smiling_face:

It should take less than a few minutes.
