How can I change the default email sender in Shopify?

Topic summary

Main issue: Emails generated from Shopify contact forms show as “Shop Name (shopify) mailer@shopify.com,” including when replying, which harms branding. Request to instead have the customer’s email appear as the sender or otherwise customize the “From” identity.

Suggested fix: A reply states the “via shopifyemail.com” label should disappear automatically within 24 hours if the store’s sender email is properly authenticated by adding the required CNAME and MX DNS records. (CNAME and MX are DNS entries used for email authentication and delivery.)

Ongoing problem: Another participant reports the issue persists weeks after updating CNAME and MX, still seeing mailer@shopify.com and “Shopify” appended, and asks how to change both the sender name and email.

Status: Unresolved. Key open questions are whether additional steps are required beyond CNAME/MX and whether the sender can be changed to the customer’s email for form submissions. Action item: Re-verify DNS authentication settings; no confirmed workaround or final resolution provided in the thread.

Hello-

When receiving emails from our Contact Us web form and other forms on our Shopify site, the emails populate from Shop Name (shopify) mailer@shopify.com as well as populating when replying to customers.

Does anyone know how to change this setting and have it populate the email address of the customer that submitted the inquiry. Or literally anything else?

Annoying having to delete this from our email replies and doesn’t look professional. Not a fan of Shopify having to blast their name every other word and distracting from our brand.

Much appreciated,

RB

Hello @rflush

‘via shopifyemail.com’ will be removed automatically after 24 hours, provided you have authenticated your ‘custom domain based’ sender email address correctly by entering the required CNAME and MX Records in your DNS Settings.

I hope the above is useful to you.

I’m having this same issue, mailer@shopify.com shows up when a customer submits a contact form. It also adds Shopify name in parentheses after my store name. It’s been weeks since I’ve updated the CNAME and MX Records. How can I change the name and email of the sender?
