How can I change the H3 tag in my webshop's page title?

Hi all,

New to the shopify community, and have a question in relation to my webshop www.justfunnysocks.dk

When it appears on google search results, it has the page title ’ Just Funny Socks: Sjove strømper…'.

The thing is - I want to exclude ‘Just Funny Socks:’ from this page title, since it does not make any sense to have it there - but have no idea where to change or correct it. Under the webshop, preferences, the page title is ‘Sjove Strømper med Stil  . Be Unique - Be Happy’…so here there is no ‘Just Funny Socks:’ in the title.

So where can this be corrected??

Many thanks in advance

kind regards

Carsten / Just Funny Socks

Hey @cahyped ,

I’ve just checked the code and it shows the exact title you wrote: Sjove Strømper med Stil  . Be Unique - Be Happy’ with the shop name at the end of the title (this is added automatically in code and can be removed if you wish).

The problem is that Google has started rewriting the titles as well as meta descriptions to better suit the search queries (Google’s explanation). Unfortunately, right now we can’t do anything about that. Please read more about this in my article – How to write and edit title tags for my products, pages and collections in Shopify?

Hope this helps!

Hi Niki_K

Thanks for coming back to me on this…appreciated.

So if I understand correctly - even though I have not entered the name ‘Just Funny Socks’ in the page title of the landing page, Google rewrites it as it see fit?

I was putting my eyes on the ‘h3 class…’ when inspecting the title on google - so thought this tag could be found somewhere and corrected and also wondering why it was a h3. I don’t see any point in having the name in the page title again just below the URL having the same name - so if this could be removed that would be great.

kind regards

Carsten

Hey @cahyped ,

unfortunately yes. As far as I know there’s no mechanism yet (and I don’t think that Google plans any) to say to Google that you don’t want to wish them to change the titles. They say that they change the titles according to the search queries to fit them better…

And as for the h3 elements, do you mean the h3 elements that appear on the Google search result page? If yes, they have nothing to do with your website – they are elements used and controlled completely on the Google search result page generated by them.

Hi @Niki_K

Thanks for feedback  .

I just found it a bit strange, since I don’t think I’ve seen this on other webshops, when searching on Google, hence I thought it something I could change in my backend…but apparently just have to live with it then .

And yes - exactly that element, the h3 tag on google search result.

Thx again.
