How can I change the payment method for purchasing a theme as a collaborator?

So I am a collaborator on a project for a client and we would like to purchase a theme, but I believe it is wanting to use the client’s card, which we don’t want.

It takes me to this page without giving an option for selecting a payment method.

I am assuming the reason I can’t choose a payment method is because I am a collaborator?

If that is the case then is there a way I can buy the theme on a different account and then transfer it to this one or something similar?

To double check, are you trying to purchase this theme while logged into your collaborator account or are you attempting this through the Account Owner’s account?

Once a theme charge is approved the payment will be made using the credit card on file for that store. This will typically be the merchant’s credit card. The Account Owner can update their billing information following this guide here. That being said, the new payment method would be used for all charges going forward until it is replaced.

There is a way to transfer a theme from one account to another. However, you would need help from our support team to do this (you can contact them here) and it is only possible when certain criteria are met:

  • A paid theme can only be transferred if the original store it was purchased on is being closed.
  • A paid theme can only be transferred if both accounts use the same Account Owner email address.

Correct, I am trying to purchase from the collaborator account. If we logged in through the client’s account would we have the option to put in a different payment method without changing the card tied to the account?

Hi @IsaacMehegan . If you log in through the client’s Account Owner account you would have the option to change the payment method on file following these steps. However, that would replace the current payment method on file. Only one payment method can be enabled at a time at the moment. I’d also advise that only the Account Owner log in using the Account Owner account for security reasons. I know it isn’t ideal for your specific situation and I’m happy to pass along any feedback you have on this.
