How can I close my trial store to free up its name?

I opened a store under a free trial, but my wife has decided to open a store begin a subscription. How can I close my store account so she can use the name of the store I have?

Hey, @KGray4RandK ! Welcome to Shopify Community!

Are you referring to the myshopify URL (e.g. storename.myshopify.com) or the store name you entered when signing up for the free trial? If so, this URL is unchangeable as it serves as a unique identifier for your account. With that said, you have the ability to buy or connect a custom domain (e.g. storename.com) and when you do, the myshopify URL won’t be visible to the public and it will only be used in your Shopify admin.

You can opt to continue with your wife’s store and simply connect your custom domain to it so you can display the right store name. However, if you prefer to continue with the store that has the appropriate myshopify URL, you can close your wife’s store and start a subscription with the other store. You can refer to the following guides to purchase a custom domain, connect a third-party one (if you already purchased a custom domain from a third-party provider), or close a store.

Once you’ve decided which store you’re going to use moving forward and you start to build your website, consider referring to our launch checklist. Using the checklist as a guide in working towards your launch will be a surefire way to ensure you don’t forget to set up any crucial elements of your website that are needed for a successful opening day. The checklist is really helpful as it will take you through different stages of building your store–from adding sales channels to setting up your billing information.
