Objective: Compare 2020 vs 2021 shipping spend and gauge the impact of introducing free shipping on orders over $50 on GMROI (Gross Margin Return on Inventory). The current sales report misses orders that received free shipping, limiting analysis.
Newest update: Shopify introduced two built-in reports for Shopify Shipping labels:
Shipping Labels
Shipping Labels Over Time
What they provide: Exportable shipping label costs per order and visibility into average label costs over time—useful for annual comparisons and trend analysis tied to the free shipping policy.
Accuracy guidance: Shopify bills remain the most accurate source for financial reconciliation. The new reports are positioned as a quick, high-level overview of shipping costs.
Outcome/next steps: Use the Shipping Labels and Shipping Labels Over Time reports (and/or billing statements) to quantify 2020 vs 2021 shipping expenses, including orders with free shipping, then assess GMROI impact. No confirmation of resolution yet; the thread remains open pending user validation and analysis.
Hi! I am working on a shipping project. I need to pull a reoprt that shows how much we have spent in 2020 vs 2021 in shipping fees. Last year we updated policy to offer free shipping on products over $50. I need to see if this creating a deep in our GMROI. Is there somewhere I can pull this data. When I view shipping on the sales report is doesnt capture the customers that have recieved free shipping.
We just launched two new reports for Shopify Shipping labels that might also help you:
Shipping Labels
Shipping Labels Over Time
You can now see and export your shipping label costs per order along with other metrics such as average label costs over time.
The bills are always most accurate for any financial reconciliations, but these reports will give you a quick, high level overview of your costs and how they might change over time.
