How can I connect my 1&1 IONOS domain to my store with a pending SSL?

I am unsure about how to connect my purchased 1&1 IONOS domain to my shopify store. When I tried connecting it via shopify’s domain settings, it states that my SSL is pending. I have waited several days (48+ hrs.) and the same error message still shows. I am unsure as to what to do next. I also do not know how to navigate IONOS DNS settings. If that is my main issue, Im not 100% too sure how to change them. Any guidance would be very helpful!

Hi, @JakeStateFarm .

Thanks for posting to the Shopify Community!

Are you able to share your domain here? How long has the SSL pending error message been present? Once the domain is shared, we can use a tool to look up your DNS settings to ensure they’re pointing to Shopify’s records. I would also recommend contacting IONOS Support if you’re having issues configuring your DNS settings on their end.

When connecting your third-party domain to Shopify, you’ll need to change your DNS records in your 1&1 ONOS account. I’ll share the process below.

  • Log into your 1&1 ONOS account.
  • Locate the DNS settings or domain management area.
  • Change the following records:
  1. Point the A record to Shopify’s IP address: 23.227.38.65.
  2. Delete any other A records on the domain if present.
  3. Point the CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com
  4. Make sure to save your changes

The next step is to connect your domain to Shopify. Please follow the steps shared below.

  • Navigate to your Shopify admin > Settings > Domains section.
  • Click Connect existing domain.
  • Enter your domain name and click Next.
  • To confirm that your domain is connected to your Shopify store, click Verify connection.
  • It may take up to 48 hours for your domain to be verified. Once it’s verified, your domain is listed in the THIRD-PARTY DOMAINS section of the Domains page with the status Connected.

If you’ve exhausted the steps above and it’s been more than 48 hours, you can connect with our support team via the Shopify Help Center so we can ensure it’s configured correctly on the backend.

I hope this helps!

Thanks very much! I have followed your detailed steps and I am now currently waiting for my Domain to connect since it still says SSL pending. My domain name is neosolar.store . Prior to changing my DNS settings, I have had an error message for about a week. I would appreciate if you would be able to search my DNS settings to ensure I followed your steps correctly! Thanks again for the help.

Hi again, @JakeStateFarm .

We appreciate you following the steps shared above.

Upon checking your domain DNS settings, the domain points to Shopify and the A record is valid. I navigated to your website (neosolar.store) with no error messages present.

On your end within your Settings > Domains section are you still seeing an SSL pending or any other error messages?

Looking forward to your reply!

Hello!

I no longer have any issues! Thanks very much, your advice helped out a ton.
