How can I convert my public store into a members-only site?

Topic summary

Goal: convert a public Shopify store into a members-only/trade experience so discounted prices are visible only to logged-in trade customers; asks if this requires an app or can be done via a theme template.

Recommendation: use a “wholesale pricing” app from the Shopify App Store. This keeps the public storefront but shows alternate pricing only to approved, logged-in wholesale accounts, addressing the need to avoid publicly advertising lower prices.

Features highlighted: wholesale applications/approvals and login-gated pricing. Tiered pricing is possible (examples given: Group A 10% off, Group B 20%), with optional automatic tier assignment based on customer spend (e.g., $10,000 → 20% off; $20,000 → 25%), depending on the chosen app.

Resource: a video tutorial is linked that demonstrates steps to make the store more exclusive (video is central for implementation guidance).

Status: no confirmation from the asker on implementation. Direction points toward an app-based solution rather than a theme-only approach; discussion remains open.

I want to change my shop from a general public shop to a trade/ members only website to offer bigger discounts to select customers. I cannot advertise my products to the general public at the lower price so it needs to be locked effectively to logged in ‘trade’ customers.

Do I need an app to do this or is there a way I can do it through a standard shopify page template?

Any help would be really appreciated!!

Hey @gigihome ,

The best way to handle this would be adding a ‘wholesale pricing’ app (https://apps.shopify.com/search?q=wholesale%20pricing).

These apps would allow you to still sell to ‘general/public’ customers as you’re currently doing, but then have a separate set of pricing for approved wholesale customers. Your wholesale customers can apply for your wholesale program, and if you accept them, then they just need to login to their customer/wholesale account when on your store, and the site will look the exact same, except all of the product pricing can be different.

You can also do tiers of pricing, so that you can offer different groups of wholesale customers different pricing. For example, you could have ‘group A’ get 10% off all products, and then ‘group B’ get 20% off all products. Depending on which app you go with, you can also set up the tiers automatically, based on how much the wholesale customer has spent in the past. For example, if you spend $10,000 then you get 20% off, or if you spend $20,000 then you get 25% off.

I hope the above helps point you in the right direction! :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers,

Stephen
