How can I correctly redirect a URL on my website?

Topic summary

Issue: A URL intended for redirection — /collections/quadriptych/large-triptych — keeps appearing as the destination, reversing the desired redirect to /collections/quadriptych. The page isn’t found in Collections or Pages, and Google traffic had been landing on it. The store owner also lost the on-site “Edit” button/login for direct page editing.

Key clarification: The URL is not a separate page; it’s the “quadriptych” collection filtered by the tag “large-triptych.” Only one product (“multi-panel-wall-art-seasons-painting”) carries that tag.

Suggested fix: Remove the “large-triptych” tag from that product so the filtered URL should automatically resolve to the base collection.

Outcome: The user reports it did not auto-redirect, but now understands the tag-based filter and can control which products show on the filtered page, which is acceptable for now.

Status: Partial resolution. The automatic redirect behavior remains unconfirmed, and the issue of the missing on-site edit/login access was not addressed. Discussion appears open with unanswered questions about the redirect and editing access.

Hi , im having a problem with this page [https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych](https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych) I want to redirect it to [https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych](https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych) everytime ive tried to do it, it reverses the pages and show it as redirecting https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych to https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych , i dont understand why its doing this, I read i need to delete https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych to redirect, but I cant find this page anywhere in the setting, not collections or pages. google traffic was directing to it, thats the only reason i know its there.

Also I cant seem to edit pages on wrightsonarts.com directly anymore,in the past there would be an “edit” button and i could press it and it would open a way to edit the page I wanted to edit directly without having to go into the settings, I think there was some “Log in” on my site itself ,but i cant find a way to acces it anymore, please help.

Hi @Stuartz ,

The page https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych is collection https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych filtered by tag “large-triptych”.

There is only one product "https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/products/multi-panel-wall-art-seasons-painting" on that tag. So if you remove tag “large-triptych” from the product, the page will automatically redirect to the base category.

Hi Makka, thanks for that , it didnt redirect to the base catagory but you gave me a better understanding of what was going on, i can modify what products are showing on https://wrightsonarts.com/collections/quadriptych/large-triptych now, which is good enough really

Hi @Stuartz ,

That is why shopify had those URL structures. So that we can manage our collections.

If you find this information useful, a Like would be greatly appreciated. And if this solves the problem, please Mark it as Solution!
