How can I customize each page on my Shopify store individually?

I am new to this shopify editing and It is a bit confusing. I will try to be as clear so that I can be understood in what i am asking. So how do I customize my shopify home page, separately from the other pages? For example, I have a banner that I only want on the home page, but when I click the “collections” tab all the changes that I have made to the home page automatically shows up on any of the other pages. I want to edit each page as their own entity so how do i stop this from happening? Every change done on the home page keeps altering every page in my store.

@Gosurf - shopify uses shared template approach ,that is why change on any page results in changes on all the pages, to avoid it you have 2 options

1] create and use separate template for each page (which is not feasible if you have many pages)

or

2] use some page builder app like pagefly

If you add a banner to the homepage, it should not appear on any other page, just the one that you put it on. What’s the link to your website?

Happy to help.

I don’t have more than about 5 pages so I think that will be my best option. Now i need to figure out to make separate templates for each page, because what I’ve found online when attempting it still copies everything to other pages even using the drop down menu and selecting the “create template” button the same results happen. maybe something i am missing.

@Gosurf - after you create new template, please create new sections for those particular pages as well… because right now you might have created the tempalte but may be that template is using very same sections as the old / default templates

this is bit time taking and complicated task but I think you can do it, else you will need a developer for this.

Hello @Gosurf

If you add the banner to the homepage in Theme customization, it should not appear on other pages. I think you have added the banner to the header section, which is shared between pages. Please make sure to add the banner to the Content section and it should be fine.

Hello @Gosurf ,

To customize your Shopify home page separately from other pages, you can follow these steps:

  • Identify the home page template: there is typically a specific template file that controls the layout and content of the home page. This template file is often called index.liquid or home.liquid. Locate this file within your theme files.
  • Duplicate the home page template: Create a duplicate of the home page template file and give it a unique name. For example, you can make a copy called custom-home.liquid.
  • Assign the new template to your home page: In your Shopify admin, go to the “Online Store” section and click on “Pages.” Find the page that you have set as your home page and click on it. In the “Template” section on the right-hand side, select the newly duplicated template (e.g., custom-home) from the dropdown menu.
  • Customize the new template: Open the duplicated template file (custom-home.liquid) and make the desired customizations that are specific to your home page. For example, you can add a banner that should only appear on the home page.
  • Update other pages as needed: To ensure that other pages in your store remain separate from the home page customization, you may need to update their respective template files individually.

By duplicating the home page template and assigning it to the home page, you create a separate entity that can be customized independently. This allows you to make changes specific to the home page without affecting other pages in your store.

Hope this can help. Let us know if you need any further support.
