How can I customize my template in version 7.1?

Hey, I was told that if I used version 7.1, I would have the ability to create my own template. I know the exact look and feel that I am trying to get however, I feel like I am limited by the theme. Does anyone know how to:

  • add a search icon and bar in to the header?

  • how I can add my own font?

  • How I can stop my images being cropped?

I would so appreciate any help.
