How can I customize the drop down menu in the Impulse Theme?

I am using the Impulse Theme

My menu is to busy and would like to have it ‘cleaned up’ a bit:

• reduce space between drop down items

• add color to main items

• have them all on one line if possible

i would like it to look a bit like this if possible

or like this

We need to customize the header.liquid file to create the menu like image. Its a complex method so you should hire a developer.
