Hi,
I would like to delete a domain on a different account of mine to use for my current account. The other account was supposed to just be a practice run to figure out how shopify works. I would like to delete and unlink the domain completely from my other account so that i can use it on a different account. How can i do this?
Hi, @Abaydoun21 .
Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community!
To confirm, you’re looking to transfer your domain from the old Shopify store to the new Shopify store? If you still have access to the old store, you can transfer your Shopify-managed domain to a different Shopify store directly from the admin. I’ll share the steps below for better visibility.
How to transfer your Shopify-managed domain to another Shopify store:
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
- In the Shopify-managed domains section, click the name of the domain that you want to transfer.
- Click Transfer domain > Transfer to another Shopify store.
- Confirm that your store owner’s email address is up to date, and then click Send transfer link.
- When you receive the transfer email message, do one of the following:
- If you’re the other store’s owner or a staff member with the Transfer domain to another Shopify store permission, then click the transfer link in the email text and log in to the Shopify store where you want to transfer the domain.
- If you’re not the other store’s owner or a staff member with the Transfer domain to another Shopify store permission, then forward the email message to someone who has the appropriate permission for that store.
Please note: In order for the domain transfer to succeed, you’ll need to log in to the Shopify store directly from the transfer link in the email message. After the transfer is accepted, it can take up to 24 hours for the domain transfer to complete.
If you don’t have access to the old store, you’ll need to contact our support team via the Shopify Help Center. Through our community forums, we do not have access to authentication tooling and cannot provide account-specific support.
I’d also love to hear more about what type of business you’re starting in your new store.
I hope this helps!
Hello Abaydoun21,
The standard info on removing a domain that Victoria supplied is great. Here is a quick tip just in case you have issues: if the domain hasn’t been completely set up on your old site the instructions below may seem to not work. If you don’t see the option to remove the domain on the old site, then complete the setup so you can remove it. Hopefully you don’t need this, but I bashed my head on this for a couple hours before figuring it our a couple days later.

Follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin.
Select the domain you want to delete by clicking its name.
To delete a domain, click.
To confirm, click Remove
Hi CmArtSolutions,
what do you mean by complete it? What exactly are the bare minimum steps to completion because i cant see the option to remove it as you were saying and it was frustrating.
Hello Abaydoun21,
I did the manual process for setting up my domain. The button I used to get past my issue was The “Verify Domain” button. There is also a “Make Primary” link when doing the setup that you can click if “Verify Domain” doesn’t work. The video below shows the process I used including the “Verify Domain” button and “Make Primary” link. After you have Verified the domain the delete button should become active and you can remove it. Again, if the “Verify Domain” button doesn’t work then use the “Make Primary” link. It may be really annoying that there is no ability to abort the process early, but the steps above should work and the full details are in the video in the link below.

A higher level article just in case you have another scenario like having purchased the domain through Shopify.

Hi CmArtSolutions,
I hit the “Make Primary Link” button but after that nothing showed up. I refreshed multiple times and redid it twice. Still nothing…
You may have to submit a support ticket.
Just to confirm, but did you also click the “Verify Domain” button?
