You’ll be happy to know this change can be made without any coding in your footer.liquid. Removing it from the “Edit Languages” section of your theme is definitely the cleanest and most efficient way. To get there you can take the following steps:
Store Admin > Online store > Themes > Current Theme > Actions > Edit Languages
Simply search “powered” in the search bar, I will show you my test store as an example:
By default, the original wording is “Powered by Shopify”, at some point do you recall making this adjustment to “2018” or have somebody do this on your behalf?
You would just need to remove the “2018” wording by adding a space and then clicking save, or you could update the date to say 2021 if you would prefer. Let me know in a reply if you have any other questions about it!

I’m recently hired web & marketing help for this store, so I inherited the current website (no documentation for any of the theme customization), and didn’t realize that it was occurring in place of the usual Powered by Shopify bit.
