How can I disconnect a new domain from my current Shopify account?

Hello,

I have a Shopify shop with my primary domain, and I want to open a new shop in few months in a different account, but yesterday I bought a new domain for the new shop from my shopify account, and for some reason every time I open this domain in the web it’s redirect to my shop. I want to disconnect that and I can’t find the way. I only want to have this new domain there without nothing, till I open my new shop but not to be connected with my current shop.

What I can do?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @NicePick

Thank you for the screenshot and details on what you are trying to accomplish. In this situation, because the domain was purchased directly from within your current Shopify store, the domain automatically is setup to point to the current store account.

You can’t directly disconnect it from the Shop but you should be able to click “manage” next to the domain and edit the DNS settings so that the domain can’t redirect there. Specifically the A record and CNAME record.

Keep in mind that since this domain is managed by your current Shopify account, you will need our authenticated support to assist in transferring the domain to your new account once it is created.

Hello Shay,

Thank you very much for your response, defo I will contact Shopify when I will transfer to the new account (which will be Shopify too).

Could you please specific bit more
DNS: which one can I use to be an empty page?
CNAME: blank.myshopify.com (I wrote that, but not sure if this is ok)

Thank you!

In order to have the domain point to a “blank page” you would need to host the page externally and then update the DNS for the domain to point to where the page is hosted.

This isn’t something that can be done through Shopify directly. If you want to edit the dns settings for the A record IP address (enter all 0s or 1s) and the cname record (x.myshopify.com) this should point to a 404 page or a page that says this store is unavailable.

Thanks Shay,

I changed the Cname with no problem, but still dosen’t let me change the A record IP address, I wrote 00.000.00.00 or 11.111.11.11, click in “confirm” but nothing happened, again they wrote the previos ip. and on its right says “Shopify IP” in green.
