I have seen a couple other users post similar questions in the past few years, but haven’t yet seen an answer.
I could use some assistance to seeing if there is an app or otherwise a direction I can take with customizing a template or something out there to accomplish something we’ve been looking for…
Because of certain business decisions, we have to create each style of our clothes as separate products, with variants being just Size (occasionally color as well).
So we may have 10 different print patterns or colors to one style, but we have to have each of those 10 as independent products.
I’m looking for a way to display those 10 products as essentially variants of the one style.
I have found plenty of articles on how to display a product that has multiple variants as multiple products (display only, not literally different products), but I’m trying to accomplish pretty much the opposite.
You can create a product and use all the patterns as variations so what is the limitation of doing it that way? Or is the issue managing inventory for these styles across the different variations and you want to link the original products that are created?
Right… that’s the “certain business decisions” I was referring to - it has to do with what we offer to wholesale and what we do not (we can’t offer just one variant of a product to wholesale - it’s the whole product or none, which is why we have all patterns/colors as products and not just variants of a master product or style).
I’m still not 100% as each variant is still a product as it can have its own SKU. If you want to email an example products(s) set up can probably guide you a bit better - tom@channelup.io
First - I appreciate you taking the time to try to help me. Thank you!
Second - the way the Wholesale channel (our primary limiting factor in this issue and not something we will be changing) works in Shopify limits us to offering products by tag at at whatever % off retail. So if Product X is $5 full-price retail, has the tag ‘wholesale’; it gets displayed to wholesalers at $2.50… the whole product, not just select variants.
So if we were to have our products created at the style level (which would have been ideal, if the wholesale channel wasn’t the issue it is), we could indeed have them listed as Product X with variants of print/color & size.
