Surely its a simple feature to implement and would save massive amounts of time when updating the site, what is going on Shopify people have been asking for this for years
Topic summary
Shopify merchants are requesting a native menu duplication feature, particularly for seasonal navigation changes like Christmas promotions. The original poster highlighted the problem: they cannot duplicate complex menus for testing before going live, forcing them to either recreate entire menus manually (time-consuming and error-prone) or edit live menus directly without preview capability.
Community Response:
- Multiple users confirmed experiencing the same frustration, especially those with seasonal businesses or complex automotive/category menus
- The issue has persisted for at least 2+ years without official Shopify resolution
- Users express disappointment that such a basic feature remains unavailable
Current Workarounds:
- Third-party Chrome extension (~$10 one-time cost)
- Paid apps like Matrixify (export/import menus via Excel)
- Menufy app (includes free tier)
- Free community-created tool (shared via tutorial link)
- Manual technical solution using browser developer tools (video tutorial provided)
Status: The discussion remains unresolved with no official Shopify response. Users continue advocating for this as a standard platform feature rather than requiring paid apps or technical workarounds.
YES! We need this as well. We have a massive dawn menu, and if something goes wrong, we cannot recover quickly. Menu duplication would be a huge WIN!
I can do this for you. Drop me a line.
Right. The way it is now requires me to pay someone? That’s not working for
me
I was searching for a solution as well.
I found one. Cost you about 10 bucks one time, thats it.

@PolyInfra thanks for sharing, looks a great tool.
But the Buy links is having DNS issue. I will try in couple hours / days.
Thank you.
I am desperate for this feature. Seems like such a simple request given you can duplicate themes, why not also navigation!?
And 2 years later still no updates…
Shopify, is this really this complex or just overlooked like to many other features that should be STANDARD?
+1 on this and +1 on still being fascinated on how long this is taking considering how basic of a feature it is and how much it is needed.
Also check out Menufy (https://getmenufy.com)
We struggled with this issue for years and decided to create Menufy to solve this for good! plus there’s a free tier which should be enough for most Shopify merchants.
This also allows you to copy and paste into the default menus (main-menu) which Shopify does not allow you to delete.
Wow, looks amazing! I will test. I sent you a message on chat site to share this tool in an Brazilian Shopify Partner Group ![]()
Cheers.
+1 for this suggestion.
We want to make an update to our navigation. We want to work on it over the next few days of discussions as we iterate to a new nav.
This would be so much easier if we could just duplicate and modify rather than recreate the entire thing from scratch.
I don’t want to be experimenting with changes on a live site. Shopify has lots of features where we can’t test before publishing to a live store, which really surprises me.
Duplicating a nav item is a very simple and basic feature that Shopify should support.
Shopify’s go to solution is, “Buy this app” or “hire that developer”
Great news, everyone: In July, you will finally be able to duplicate menus in Shopify. ![]()
Shopify just announced 3 relevants APIs this week for managing menus:
- menus - List all menus
- menu - Get a specific menu by ID
- menuCreate - Create a new menu
Even if you’re not a coder, you can probably imagine how this would make it possible to easily manage menus.
These APIs will be available in Shopify’s 2024-07 API, but I’m pretty sure you can already use that app today.
Personally, I’m very busy running 1 app already, and I’m willing to bet Shopify will eventually build this into the platform themselves, so I’m not planning to build an app for this at the moment.
But this is a pretty popular thread, so I wouldn’t be surprised if another developer introduced a solution within the next 90 days.
You can also just find a developer on your own to custom build an app like this for you. Also, this API doesn’t seem to require Shopify Plus, so I think every store can use it.
(Though, if you want me specifically to build this, you can reply, and maybe I’ll consider it.)
Best,
Tobe
I am here to say that I have the same issue and to hopefully keep momentum going on this very frustrating limitation…
you can use Matrixify app (paid app) to export “menus”, then make your changes in excel and then “import” back.
Hi @onescales
Thank you for a mention.
Yes - you sure can use the Matrixify app to bulk export and import your store’s Navigation Menus.
Here you can find various tutorials on how to use the Matrixify app for Shopify Navigation menu import and export (of course, you can use it also for many other use-cases by importing and exporting Navigation).
Try it out and if you have any questions or concerns along the way, let us know!
Hi @Online_Seller ,
You can use the app MenuQoL for this. You can duplicate menus with it as well as hide menu items whenever you want.
@Online_Seller Codelayer just released the MenuMonkey ‑ Menu Duplicator app to solve this issue.
Unfortunately, Shopify does not have this function. You will need to use an app for this.
I made a tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4NOzvmyICU
