Goal: change Shopify’s subscription widget so product variants show in a dropdown instead of the default table.
Current state: Shopify does not provide a built-in way to convert the subscription widget to a dropdown. No theme setting or native customization is available.
Suggested options:
Build a custom Liquid-based widget (DIY or hire a Shopify Partner).
Use a third‑party app from the Shopify App Store that supports dropdowns (likely paid).
Keep the default widget and submit a feature request to Shopify (considered unlikely to be adopted soon).
Outcome/Status: No direct solution within the native widget; actionable paths are custom development or a paid app. Discussion remains open with no code examples or attachments provided.
I’m looking for a way to edit the Shopify subscription widget so that the variants display as a drop down rather than the default table. Is this possible with the Shopify subscription widget or am I better off pursuing a paid for app?
For my clients I have created custom widgets to add a subscription instead of directly using the Shopify subscription widget. Unfortunately Shopify hasn’t given the ability to change the subscription widget into a dropbox. You have several options in your case:
Create a custom liquid widget yourself or hire a Shopify Partner like myself to create one for you.
Use a custom application that offers a dropdown, you will have to search in the Shopify store, it will definitely be a paid app.
Leave the widget as is and put in a request to Shopify to add it into the app (a very big long shot).
I hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any other questions.
