I would like to be able to sort or filter an order for faster fulfilment. Currently, items are displayed in the order in which the customer added them to the cart (it seems). I would like to sort or filter an order by tag, condition, type and vendor. We have thousands of small items in our store - it’s really a mini warehouse - all labeled different bins. To be able to sort or filter orders would really speed up our fulfilment process and eliminate errors.
I talked with Shopify support about this. They understood my problem, but just did not have a solution. They pointed me to Shopify experts. I have had two quotes - one for $8,000 and another for $1,200 to build out a separate app to handle this. I just don’t think this is something I should have to pay for, let alone that much. The support rep. I spoke too said he had never had this request before. I sincerely doubt I am the only one with this issue.
So if you’re reading this and this is something you would Shopify to do too, please reply to this thread and maybe Shopify can add it as a feature. This is a default feature on other marketplaces I use and I think it should be on Shopify.
That’s right, there’s not a way to sort items in the order details page, so a custom app that mocks the order details page but has your desired functionality in place would be the only option for that.
I don’t expect they’d implement this as a feature so I would consider other ways that can help your workflow.
For example, if you’re wanting to filter orders by the products inside them, you can tag the orders. This would allow you to save a shortcut link, for example to show all orders with Product X or by Vendor Y.
Another thing I’ve seen for people that work with multiple vendors on the same order. You can use either the order notes or the timeline comments to communicate on the status / what’s being picked, etc.
If it helps, I now use and app called Order Picklist. I also have implemented SKUs for each product, that when sorted alphabetically, will sort an entire order by bin with multiple variables (new, used, type, vendor, etc.). I have created a workaround to my problem in the original post by using Order Picklist to sort my orders by SKU. I can then either work off the screen or print it out.
We allow sorting / grouping products and orders in your picklist. Additionally, if you have product locations or bins in metafields you can order your picklist by any product / variant metafield.
Great, thanks! I’ve already switched over to your app - this functionality should be built into shopify. The app is very easy to use and includes all the information I require while picking.
Since this thread is a bit old, just out of curiosity —
after moving to that app, does it fully remove the need to manually decide
which orders to work on first, or is there still some prioritization you have to do yourself?
I’m researching current workflows, not selling anything.
