How can I efficiently create automatic color swatches for numerous variants?

Hey there!

I’m looking for help for our online store (which is still in development). We have about 31,000 products and their variants on our online store, and easily 1000+ color variants.

We would like to know what the most efficient way is to create color swatches for all these variants, and if there is a Shopify app that can do it automatically?

Any direction would help a ton.

For example, Swatches by Webyze does not require any programming or coding and this app supports Online Store 2.0 - they also offer a free trial, so you can try them out and see if it’s the right fit for your store.

Elias, I’ve had a look at the application, but unfortunately it still requires us to manually input the hex codes, which we might as well do ourselves without the need for an app.

How do websites that have thousands of color variants across their products upload the color swatches? Do they have to do them all manually?

I believe that some of the colour swatches are able to detect the more common colours (eg. red, blue, yellow) from the variants. However, for more specific shades of colours or patterns, it’s likely that they were done manually through curated hexadecimal colors (Hex codes) or by uploading files. That being said, if you’ve found an app that you’d like to try out, then I’d recommend reaching out to the app developer and see if they can share any insight on syncing the colours more quickly with a larger catalog.

It sounds like you have quite the selection of products - I’d love to hear more about your business! What kind of products do you sell? How are the colours/variants being displayed on the product page at the moment?
