How can I efficiently print barcode labels for received PO items on Shopify POS?

Is this topic something that Shopify is talking about fixing? We brick and mortar clients would really like an answer. We cannot use Shopify if everything that is supposed to be basic POS 101 is not included. The fact that you cannot print barcode labels straight from the purchase order with all the quantities already added and the fact that you have to add the cost in twice (once in the product page, and again in the purchase order) makes putting in new product time consuming and infuriating. It was so much faster with our old out of date POS. Why would people switch over to a service that takes 5-10 times longer to put in products? If you want to corner the market with brick and mortar stores and not just online stores, you are going to have to do better Shopify!!!

I regret choosing Shopify POS and would recommend anyone “on the fence” to consider all the alternatives. It’s not too late to save yourself.

we really need this!

great tip. thanks. for the volume of new products this worked for me but I understand the need to have printing barcodes as part of the PO process so hope Shopify will address it for folks with greater volume or just basic ease of use. It’s such an obvious need.

I just want to have a printer available on the market that could connect to shopify pos like a receipt printer does. And it prints out product name, barcode and price on a label when I click on any product. It bothers me for years…

We will. I think everyone who has migrated from QB would love a solution

Hi Talktohenryj,

Do you have a solution for this matter?

I am new to Shopify, everything is done, my website, bought all the hardware, and never thought it would be SO painful to print a product label.

I should have done more research.

I am migrating from Lightspeed Retail, where the labels were super-easy to print.

Now, I am considering returning all the hardware purchased and keeping Lightspeed POS because of this inventory problem.

We have more than 5K Skus and doing a lot of recurring order, it’s just not an option to print a one label at the time.

Thanks for your help!

I switched to Shopify a year and a half ago to manage my brick-and-mortar store. However, I have found that the app’s design does not effectively support the needs of a retail environment, such as receiving inventory, setting prices, and tagging items. It would be helpful for the POS team to include someone with firsthand experience in a brick-and-mortar setting, even if it’s just for a day. The POS features are quite inadequate. While Stocky has potential, its printing functionality only supports Dymo printers, which require the installation of several additional components to work properly. I have felt frustrated after purchasing hardware and transitioning from QuickBooks POS. Now, I am considering switching from Shopify to another POS system. Any suggestions?

This is a recurring complaint among those of us who transitioned from QB to
Shopify. I am not sure what to tell you, other than I share your concern.
If you have an ecommerce component to your business, I would still stay with
Shopify, but if you are exclusively brick and mortar, you might be well
served to look at other options.

This is a real gap: after receiving, there’s no clean way to say “just print labels for the items I received.” Searching products one at a time turns minutes into hours, and Dymo-only answers don’t help if you’re running Avery 30-per-sheet at volume.

Full disclosure, I make a labels app (LabelCraft), so take this as one option among several. The piece that fits this workflow: instead of searching item by item, you paste or upload your received list (SKU + quantity), it matches against your products, and prints the whole batch at once — so you only print what came in, at the quantities you received. Default quantity is zero, so nothing prints by accident. If a received item has no barcode, it generates a valid GS1/EAN-13 on the spot, and an audit flags invalid or duplicate check digits. Avery sheets are supported alongside Dymo/Zebra/Brother rolls.

Reading the received list straight from Shopify Transfers automatically is coming; the paste/upload path works today. Happy to answer questions.
