How can I enable dark mode for admin on my site?

Topic summary

Shopify’s Response:

  • A Shopify representative acknowledged the feedback and submitted it to developers, but made no guarantees about implementation.

Community Workarounds:

  • One user (PhilFoss) created a custom CSS solution available via the Stylus browser addon at userstyles.world
  • Another suggested using Chrome’s experimental force-dark flag (chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark)

Current Status:

  • The discussion spans multiple years (references to 2023, 2024, and “5 years later”)
  • No official dark mode has been released despite ongoing requests
  • Users express frustration that such a basic accessibility feature remains unavailable while Shopify releases other updates
  • The issue remains unresolved and ongoing, with community members continuing to bump the thread and share memes expressing their frustration

Honestly one of the biggest problems with browser dark mode inserters is when i’m editing a page in shopify that has html code in it, the darkmode inserter will insert its code directly into my shopify admin page. So, using those kind of code-scan insert flip colors isn’t an option. This is why a native change option so that it already is set when the page loads is the real deal. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
