How can I filter collection pages by color and material on Dawn theme?

Hi, I am at a loss and cannot figure it out, I would truly appreciate input on how to fix:

1. I want to filter collection pages by: colour and material. Yet usually I would use tags but cannot filter by tags? Please can someone provide an indepth explanation on how to filter by colour and material. All I have found is people mentioning ‘metafields’, yet knowhere can I find a step by step to actually create filtering by colour and material, I looked at Settings>Metafields, and I don’t understand what I am looking at nor what to do to achieve. Please help

2. On the new updated Dawn, on the product page it shows drop downs for ‘dimensions’, ‘care instructions’, ‘description’. Yet again no where when you create a product is there a place to fill in this information ><’ Please, could someone explain how to actually fill in these new sections..

1. You could follow this help doc here to learn more about it.

2. The following steps below may help you find where can edit this section, so make sure you check it out:

• From Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize
• Within the pull-down menu at the top, choose Product > Defaults Product
• Within the sidebar menu, find the Product information section and click on the arrow next to it to expand all the options.
• You should see the collapsible field where you can edit and add the new content you want.

Hi Avada,

Thanks for your reply. I see the drop down on the customize UI page, yet would that not effect every single product page? As opposed to individually tailoring that information on each products own page… I don’t understand how to edit each one separately as I have several different dimensions for different products, and different care instructions for different products…

You can try to follow the steps below to set different dimension sections for different products:

• First of all, create Metafields for all products. You can add it by going to Settings > Metafields > Products > Add definition> name it such as " Dimension" and fill out the required information.

• The next phase is going to each product, scrolling down to the “Dimension” metafield section you have created at the bottom, and adding the specific content.

• The last step is going to Online Store > Theme > Customize > select Products then Default Product on page selector at the top center > Within the sidebar menu, click on the small arrow next to Product Information to expand all options> Click on Add block > Collapsible tab > Name it as Dimension and click on the Insert Dynamic Source as the photo attached below > Select “Dimension”.

I hope this can do the trick.

If you want to filter by color and material in the collection page, using the Dawn theme, you can go to each product page and click on “add another option”:

Here you can define the option values already define such as, material and color (in the example above I add the Option “Color” and created the “option values” Brown)

Next click on “Online store” click in “Navigation” on the left and click in “Add filters”

Selected the product options (in my case “Color”) and click on “Done”.

Know when I go to my collection list page I can see the option “Color” in the filter and in the product page.
