How can I find the relevant file to edit in the theme?

Topic summary

A user needs to update their phone number on their Shopify store (using the Debut theme) but cannot locate where it’s stored in the theme files, despite finding it previously.

Initial troubleshooting attempts:

  • Checked theme customizer and product page templates without success
  • The phone number appears next to an email address in an “accordion” section on product pages
  • Standard theme editor locations don’t contain this content

Recommended solutions:

  • Install browser extension “Shopify Theme Search by Bold” (Chrome) to search theme files for keywords like “accordion” or the phone number itself
  • Alternative tool: “Diffy Theme Tools” app (https://apps.shopify.com/diffy) for searching across theme files

Current status:

  • User installed the Bold extension but encountered issues using it (no visible search box, unclear when/where it should appear)
  • Found alternative: “Shopify Theme File Search by EZFY”
  • The phone number is likely embedded in either the product description or hardcoded within theme files rather than accessible through the visual editor

Hi,

I change my phono number and I want to change in on my website.

I think I must have looked at all the files in my theme, Debut, but I can’t find the relevant lines (although I did find it long ago when I changed email addresses :/).

Can you help?

Hi @eliahu ,

You can change the phone number in customize or product.liquid code.

Hi @eliahu

Thank you for the link to your store and the screenshot showing us what you want to change.

I believe this is built right into the product page template itself, which can be altered from within the theme editor.

If you go to Online Store > Themes > Edit live theme, and then navigate to a product page or use the drop down menu at the top of the theme editor, you should be able to adjust that content from there. I’ve included a screenshot showing what I am referring to for reference:

That’s the place I first looked for the phone number and it isn’t there. I also remember it wasn’t there when I changed the email, which is next to the phone number.

Thanks Shay but I can’t find it there:

Thank you for the screenshot @eliahu . Since this is not part of the theme template via the editor, it could be part of the product description or built into the theme file itself.

The section is called “accordion” though which should be fairly easy to find within the theme if you have the right tool. In situations like this I highly recommend installing the Shopify Theme Search by Bold (Chrome). You can install this app into the chrome browser and it creates an integrated theme search from within your store admin. I use this tool all the time when troubleshooting themes. You can search for both the word “accordian” or your phone number to find all instances of it within your theme file. Hopefully this helps you find the section to edit.

Thanks again @Shay

Very useful indeed. I’ve been for weeks why isn’t such a thing possible within Shopify.

I just installed but I can’t seem to figure out how to use it, I don’t see a search box. When I press the extension’s icon, I do see that it has access to my Shopify’s account.

When should the search box appear? When I enter the edit code section?

edit: the extension isn’t working anymore. Found an alternative, Shopify Theme File Search by EZFY.

There’s also an app you can install that will allow you to search all of your theme files (in any one or all themes) called Diffy Theme Tools.
