Hoping someone can help with this.
I have a small website selling a limited amount of products. Due to the varying size of the products, I have had to create two different rates for shipping with different products assigned to both;
Small: £8.34
large: £10.20
This works fine apart from when a user selects products that belong to both rates, as it combines the price of both and I would like it to default to the large rate.
So it charges £18.54 for shipping when it should be £10.20.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t think you can do what you want in Shopify.
Since your two shipping prices are not that far apart, why don’t you offer one price-flat rate for all?
You will know yourself what % of sales are for the lower price shipping and what % for the bigger price.
Do some simple maths and arrive at a price in between.
So 50/50 would be a flat rate of 9.27
Likewise 60/40 would be a flat rate 9.32
Personally, I would round figures up to say 9.50. Looks better.
I would be interested in what you think?
Hi, @SimonButterwort .
Thank you for reaching out!
I just want to gather a bit more information from you so I can recommend the best way for you to set up your shipping. What differentiates your two shipping rates? Is the large one heavier than the small one or is it just a larger shipping package?

Hi Emily,
Sorry for the huge delay in my response, I have just opened a new website and facing the same issue. I have 3 different price levels which are based on size;
General: £8.34
Selfie Frames (specifically for one product): £10
Feather Flags (specifically for one product): £15.61
If a user combines products that sit in the different profiles, it adds them together, instead of defaulting to the most expensive option. So a user could potentially see £33.95 instead of £15.61.
Hi, @SimonButterwort .
No worries at all! Thank you for reaching back out.
I will just need to gather some more information to recommend the best shipping option for you. Are your selfie frames and feather flags different weights? Most of the time, if you set your shipping up by the weight of the order, it will cover the cost of a heavier order, and your customer will be charged more accurately. You also would not encounter a double rate charge. You would set up the rates however you would like, for example. Orders that are 0-5lbs = $5 flat rate, 5.1lbs-10lbs = $10 flat rate etc. Let me know if you think this option would be best for you, and I can help you set that up.
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
