How can I fix dynamic source errors in my eCommerce site?

I’ve just started having these issues today. I’ve have had this site in development for over 6 months

and now all of a sudden I have to go through a ton of code??

“To preview or save your changes, correct the dynamic source error(s) in the bles-wold-product template.”

The solutions offered seems to be quite complex and above the capabilities of a average user/developer.
I’ve made changes to the dawn theme based on advice from people in this forum.

I’m also using a plugin from itsgot.com to add product nutritional information to the pages and I wondering if the warning at the bottom might be connected to it.

Not sure which liquid template you are using for this specific page, although it looks to be a product.liquid template.

It seems like it’s looking for the ingredients and nutrition facts information, and will not let you save the product unless that information is added.

When did you start using the plugin?

It’s the dawn theme and I’ve been using the plugin for over 5 months.

This is what the developer said:

"This is not coming from our app rather it is from a user-defined metafield. For more information see: help.shopify.com/en/manual/custom-data/metafields/metafield-definitions"

Did you add any custom metafields in your admin that might be causing this?

Not that I am aware of. I’ve had some shopify experts work on the site for me. I’ve looked at the at the definitions under metafields and there are no entries.

It does seem weird to me that I make changes and save on pages that do not use the plugin. but I get the error as soon as I try to work on a page that uses it.

It seems like it must be an issue with the plugin then.

If I may ask, what does the plugin do exactly?

I’m using a plugin called It’s Got: Nutrition Facts:

apps.shopify.com/nutrition-facts

when I look at the Product metafield definitions/metafields without definition, I see that there are 2 entries for 45+ products. Is this possibly the issue?

I also was looking back through my help requests and I found that I had messed with the metafields. Maybe this is causing the errors.

Now what can I do? Start a new store with the dawn theme and copy the code from that ( theme.liquid theme file)?

I tried copying the theme liquid file from a clean version of the Dawn Theme.

The navigation bar disappeared along with all product images.

I’m really stressing out about this because after trying for months to get my client to commit to this project and when they finally did this issue happens.

No worries, we’ll get this fixed. Even though the navigation bar and images disappeared, are you still getting the dynamic source error when you try to save changes?

No I’m still having the issue. If I update my theme file will I lose all of the custom coding snippets I put in?

Not sure if I understand your question. Are you talking about on the new theme?

This is what the app dev told me

“check for something that was entered into the theme customization for the template. Look for a Liquid or Metafield block. The error message indicates this could be the source.”

Sorry, that previous question was a bit off topic…I wanted to know if you do make custom code changes and then you do an update on that theme do you lose all the custom code?

Here’s some more information for you to look at.

I wanted to remove 2 metafields from the bottom of the product page ( Ingredients and
Nutrition Facts /Valeur Nutritive* )

https://bleswold.myshopify.com/products/2-yogurt-plain-2-5kg-size

I was sent to this page on how to do it:
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/custom-data/metafields/deleting-metafields

This is the thread I started and I followed the advice given:
https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/removing-metafields-dawn-theme-not-working/m-p/1998946#M531518

Now the strangest things has happened. The metafields are back on the pages.

When I go to https://bleswold.myshopify.com/admin/settings/custom_data I see the list but I do not see those metafields on the list and I’m still getting the same error.

Okay whew I made some progress I think.

I found this post thread

https://community.shopify.com/c/store-feedback/to-preview-or-save-your-changes-correct-the-dynamic-source-error/m-p/1902532#M125733

So I went to edit code/templates and looked at all the files that had been altered and reset them back to the earliest version one by one.

The culprit seems to be products.bles-wold-product.json

Now it gets weird, it was never altered and I reset it back to its original date of April 2022.

Now I have all the metafeilds I removed previously and there’s multicolums I have removed from the template.

Keep your fingers crossed
